The Colorado Springs Mom’s Guide to April 2017

Mamas, April is showering us with fun activities and, fingers crossed, some warmer weather to get out for park play dates! If you haven’t already joined your Neighborhood Group, check them out for even more fun events and play dates right in your part of town. There is always something going on in Colorado Springs and we want to keep you in the know! Events in this guide are organized by date to help you find what you are interested in quickly.

April 1: Michael’s Kids Club | 10am-12pm They make an Easter Chica, you shop! $2 per child

April 2: Brunch with Belle | 10am-12pm Be Our Guest! Come join us at The PEAK School of Dance for a Brunch With Belle! Price is $20/child and includes one 45 min dance class to music from Beauty and the Beast, one photo frame craft and brunch for one child and one adult with our special guest, Belle! REGISTRATION REQUIRED

April 2: Autism Friendly Paint Night |6-8pm Color Me Mine, in partnership with Autism Speaks, presents a very special night of Ceramic Painting – with No Studio Fees – for our friends with Autism and their families and caregivers. The deposit you pay now will go towards the pottery you select to paint. By RSVP only. Select the number of people in your party to reserve your table. Not open to the public. REGISTRATION REQUIRED

April 6: Nature Adventures Class @ Fountain Creek Nature Center | 9-10:30am This class is for 3-6 year olds. Typical class includes short hike and activities around a theme. This month’s theme is Backyard Birds. $3 per person (including siblings and parents). REGISTRATION REQUIRED. 

April 8: Big Cool Science Festival  | 10am-4pm Come kick-off Earth Month with us and find out how much fun science, math and engineering really is with live science demonstration shows, workshops, tours and a wide variety of fun and engaging hands-on science activities. The event is free, but please pre-register, and a $2/child (or $5/family) donation via Paypal (or cash at the door) will be appreciated to help cover our costs. Most activities are intended for students ages 8-15, but there will be fun for all ages.

April 13: Kids Craft With Pike’s Peak Children’s Museum | 10-11am (Academy Location) Join the Pike’s Peak Children’s Museum for an hour of crafting at Whole Foods Market! FREE

April 13: Twos and Threes [email protected] Creek Nature Center | 9-10:15am This class is for 2-3 year olds. Typical class includes short hike and activities around a theme. This month’s theme is Water Wizards. $3 per person(including siblings and parents). REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

April 15: Michael’s Kids Club | 10am-12pm They make a Pom Pom Bunny, you shop! $2 per child

April 19: Space Story [email protected] Foundation Discovery Center | 10:30-11:30am Designed to spark an interest in STEM in young learners. Appropriate for ages 2-5. From their site:  “Discover the science of weather with author Kell Andrews’ book Mira Forecasts the Future.” Cost included with price of admission to Discovery Center.

April 19: Children’s History Hour | 10:30am April is National Poetry Month! Discover the story of a favorite local poet, Helen Hunt Jackson. We’ll even explore her real home. We’ll read “Pocket Poems” for inspiration and practice some rhyming of our own. RSVP Donations welcome! Families are encouraged to RSVP online at cspm.org or by calling 719-385-5990. $2 suggested donation, free for museum members. For ages 2-6. REGISTRATION REQUIRED. 

April 19: Nature Explorer’s Class | 9-10:30am This class is for 4-5 year olds. Typical class includes short hike and activities around a theme. This month’s theme is Cougars & Coyotes. $3 per person (including siblings and parents). REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

April 21: Fine Arts Center Free Day | 10am – 7:30pm Museum Free Days are just that, an opportunity for the public to enjoy our galleries free of charge with artist demonstrations from 10am to 2pm in the Smith Family Gallery. This event is recurring on the third Friday of each month! If you go, make sure to check out the tactile gallery where kids are free to touch the art on display.  FREE

April 22: Michael’s Kids Club | 10am-12pm They make Earth Day projects, you shop! $2 per child

 

April 26 and 27: Little Wonders Class @ Bear Creek Nature Center  | 9-10:15am This class is for 2-3 year olds.  Typical class includes short hike and activities around a theme. This month’s theme is Animals in Weather. $3 per person (including siblings and parents) REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

City Rock CLIMBarium Open Gym | Monday-Friday from 11am-1pm This open gym time is for children 5 and under. $6 per child (18 months and under free with paid sibling). 21 N Nevada Ave, Colorado Springs

Music and Movement for Two and Three Year Olds | Mondays 10-10:30am (Rockrimmon Library), Tuesdays 10:30-11am (Cheyenne Mountain Library), Wednesdays 9:30-10am, 10:15-10:45am, 11-11:30am (Library 21c), Fridays 10:30-11am (Penrose Library & Ruth Holley Library) Shake those wiggles out and have some fun! This 30-minute program consists of music and movement activities and a story. For two and three-year-old children, with a favorite adult. Due to high attendance, certain branches issue a token to the first 20 FAMILIES, on a first come, first served basis. FREE
