The Colorado Springs Moms Guide to November 2017

Mamas, we have so much to be thankful for here in Colorado Springs! The weather, although a bit undecided at times, is beautiful more often than not; and we have so many options for family fun! Check out the tabs below to find what you have to look forward to this November.

Whether you are in the mood for a visit to a Craft Fair or looking to run off that Thanksgiving dinner, our comprehensive 2017 Ultimate Guide to Fall in Colorado Springs has you covered. This month is packed with celebrations of all the fun of the season! 

There is always something going on in Colorado Springs, and we want to keep you in the know! November 2: Nature Adventures: Wild Cats | 9-10:30am Children, ages 3-6 with an adult, will enjoy hands-on activities, puppet shows or stories, crafts, and a hike. Reservations required on-line or phone. Limit 24 participants. $3 per participant, including adults and siblings

November 2: Full STEAM ahead: Fall Edition | 4-5pm Join the High Prairie Library to engage in science, technology, engineering, art and music based activities. Best for ages 7 & up. No registration required, but supplies are limited. FREE

November 3: Chase from Paw Patrol Visit |10am-12pm Chase is on the case! Paw Patrol character will be here from 10:30am – 11:30am Toddler Jump & Play is for kids 6 years old and younger. Special Visit and Two-hour jump tickets are $9 for child, with one parent free! Stop in and see Chase from hit TV show, Paw Patrol. During Toddler Play & Jump there will be trampolines, inflatable bounce houses, and Little Tykes Pedal Cars. Purchase tickets ahead of time to secure your slot to see Chase. The last event sold out in 10hrs. Limited to 60 Toddlers and their parents for this event. Save time and complete Online waiver during your purchase process. $9

November 3: First Fridays Art Walk | 5-8pFree and open to the public, First Friday Downtown features new art, live music, and special events on the first Friday of every month from 5-8 p.m. at dozens of galleries, retailers and nonprofits throughout Downtown Colorado Springs. FREE

November 4: Arts and Crafts Show  | 9am-2:30pm This community show raises money for the Colorado Springs Senior Center activities and programs. Vendors selling fabric art, pottery, painting, hand crafts, jewelry, antiques, food and more! Open to the public and no fee charged. Come find that one of a kind holiday gift or special handmade item for yourself! FREE

November 4: Veteran’s Day Parade | 9:30am Starting back in 2000, the Veterans’ Day Parade continues to be a wonderful tradition for the City of Colorado Springs.  We thank our many sponsors, our wonderful participants, and most importantly our spectators. Parade takes place downtown.  This year’s theme is “Celebrating Military Milestones” FREE

November 4: Michaels Kids Club | 10am-12pm They make Holiday Painted Rocks, you shop! $2 per child

November 4: MAKEbreak at Michaels | 1-3pm Make it merry with minis. Pick out a mini tree and make a teensy tree skirt, garland and topper. Buy the mini tree and the rest of the supplies will be provided. FREE with purchase

November 4: Full Moon Hike | 6:30-8:30pm Enjoy cookies and hot cocoa at the Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center after a one hour guided hike through the park. Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring a flashlight or headlamp. $5/adult, $10/family.  

 

November 5: Military & First Responder Ninja Warrior Competition | 5-8pm Prove your Military Branch or Unit has the best Ninja Warrior and support the Wounded Warrior Project. Active Duty, Retired, Veterans, spouses or dependents can compete in this competition. There will be 16 obstacles and three runs to select the winner! To keep things fair we will have divisions based on age and gender! You can run the course for yourself or nominate and pay for a friend to compete.Waves of competitors will run the course one at time, tackling each obstacle. After each division the top 50% best times will advance to round two. We will also select 3 wild cards from the division to advance. After round two on the medium level course, 50% of competitors and 2 wild cards will advance to the final run. The final Red Course is the hardest course and only 3 competitors have every completed it. Just like the TV show if you fall your time stops there. The farthest  and best time will win 1st, 2nd, 3rd in each division. $25 to compete

November 9: Twos and Threes Outdoors: Turkey Talk | 9-10:30aShare the joy of your 2 or 3 year-old child’s discovery as he or she enjoys a story and an exploration hike outdoors. $3/person including adults and siblings.

November 10: Preschool Program: Bears | 10-11am Enjoy a short story from the book “The Bear Ate Your Sandwich” by Julia Sarcone-Roach. The story is followed by discussion and a take home craft- bird feeders! *PLEASE NOTE that peanut butter will be used for this craft* RSVP by calling 719-219-0108 FREE

November 11: Michael’s Kids Club | 10am-12pm They make Craft Stick Ornaments, you shop! $2 per child

November 11: MAKEbreak at Michaels | 1-3pm Customize slime and put it in your very own decorated ornament. Buy the plastic ornament and the rest of the supplies will be provided, include pre-made slime! FREE with purchase

 

November 15: Children’s History Hour: Full Steam Ahead |10:30-11:30am Full steam ahead! November is National Model Railroading Month. Trains are a special part of the story of the West. We’ll read The Last Train by Gordon Titcomb, explore the history of trains in Colorado Springs, and create our own conductors hats. Suggested for ages 4-8.Donations welcome! FREE

November 17: Museum Free Day | 10am-4pm Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center Museum Free Days are just that, an opportunity for the public to enjoy our galleries free of charge. Museum Free Days are offered the third Friday of each month with hands-on art activities from 10a to 2p in the Smith Family Gallery. FREE

November 18: A Walk in the Woods for Vets & Families| 10-11:30am We invite veterans and family members to this special naturalist led hike. Service dogs OK. FREE but registration required

November 18: Kids Zone at the Money Museum | 10:30am-12pm (ages 4-7), 1:30-3pm (ages 8-12) Did you know our paper money is made from a mysterious mixture of materials? This class will show you some of the secrets used to make our US currency – and then we’ll make our own homemade blend of paper from scratch!Free for children 12 and under. When kids participate in a KidsZone class, their parents are allowed to view and explore the Money Museum exhibits for free!

November 18: MAKEbreak at Michaels | 1-3pm Dazzle your guests with a gorgeous winter wreath. Buy the wreath base, and the supplies to decorate it will be provided. Kids can make a free craft stick reindeer! FREE with purchase

November 18: Holidays for Hope Holiday Party | 6pm Please join us for the annual Holidays for Hope Event featuring a delicious salmon and prime rib buffet dinner, and entertainment by Hot D’ Jam, and Springs favorite, Randy Sinatra. Additionally, this event will feature a Silent and Live Auction; all for a great cause! $60 tickets found here.

 

November 19: Brownies and Boardgames | 4-5pm Challenge your family or some friends to a couple of rounds of your favorite game. We’ll supply the board games and the treats, you bring the competition! All age levels and skill levels are welcome.

November 21, 22: Nature Explorers: Terrific Towhees | 9-10:30aChildren, ages 4-5 with an adult, will enjoy hands-on activities, puppet shows or stories, crafts, and a hike. Pre-registration highly recommended. $3/person including adults and siblings

November 21,22, and 25: Fall Family Fun Days | 10am-2pm Looking for a fun family outing during Thanksgiving break? Join the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum for our Fall Family Fun Days! Explore our brand new, 100% interactive children’s exhibit, “Beads, Blankets & Buffalo: Trading at Bent’s Fort.” Make seasonal crafts. Hop on a family-friendly guided tour offered at noon and 2pm. Enjoy a holiday movie and popcorn throughout the day! FREE

November 25: Children’s History Hour: Full Steam Ahead| 10:30-11:30am Full steam ahead! November is National Model Railroading Month. Trains are a special part of the story of the West. We’ll read The Last Train by Gordon Titcomb, explore the history of trains in Colorado Springs, and create our own conductors hats.Suggested for ages 4-8.Donations welcome! FREE

November 25: Punkin’ Chunkin’9:30-11:30am Bring your left over pumpkins and see how far our catapult will launch your pumpkin! A great activity for families with young children. $2-3

 

November 29,30: Little Wonders: What Now, Turkey? | 9-10:30am Discover the world of nature with your 2-3 year-old. Interactive activities and a short hike make this the perfect introduction to the outdoors for your child. Child must be accompanied by an adult. Preregistration is recommended. $3/person including adults and siblings

November 29: Family Star Party: Ever Changing Moon | 6-8pm An evening of looking to the stars and discovering the wonders of the universe. This event creates a fun learning environment for the whole family and inspires the next generation of astronomy enthusiasts! All outside activities are free to the public, and discounted admission is available for those wishing to explore the Discovery Center and Science On a Sphere® inside. FREE

 

City Rock CLIMBarium Open Gym | Monday-Friday from 11am-1pm This open gym time is for children 5 and under. $6 per child (18 months and under free with paid sibling). 21 N Nevada Ave, Colorado Springs

Music and Movement for Two and Three Year Olds | Mondays 10-10:30am (Rockrimmon Library), Tuesdays 10:30-11am (Cheyenne Mountain Library), Wednesdays 9:30-10am, 10:15-10:45am, 11-11:30am (Library 21c), Fridays 10:30-11am (Penrose Library & Ruth Holley Library) Shake those wiggles out and have some fun! This 30-minute program consists of music and movement activities and a story. For two and three-year-old children, with a favorite adult. Due to high attendance, certain branches issue a token to the first 20 FAMILIES, on a first come, first served basis. FREE

Story Time Yoga| Tuesdays at 9:30am Bring your children for a story followed by 30 minutes of mindful movement and breathing that follow themes of the story. $10, $5 each additional child
