A Behind the Scenes look at Evelyn’s Photo Shoot written from the perspective of Margaret Koning Photography
Evelyn’s family was early to wake, so I was excited to catch the sun rise as I made my way to her home. As I approached her front door, I saw little, eager faces peeking out of their front window. I think I was just as excited as the children to embark on our morning together!
Evelyn’s family is larger, with four children, and unique in that they “live small”, with all four children sharing one room. However, I was quick to realize this worked seamlessly for them. They cooperated with one another and used their space wisely, which included a backyard garden, play area, and a large living room to stretch out in. Everyone seemed to find individual time alone when they needed it, and time together in their shared spaces.
I also noticed they do not own a TV, which is also wonderfully unique to this family.
The most precious part of my visit was having one child grab an extra chair for me to sit at the table during breakfast with them. I was so very touched!
I so enjoyed photographing Evelyn and her family. It was an honor to be invited in during such an intimate Saturday morning together, and I will not soon forget our time together.

I love this photo because of its symmetry. You have Evelyn’s little one right in the middle, while she is busy in the garden; meanwhile, the tire swing makes for an interesting addition. The black and white photography transforms this otherwise ordinary photo into one that draws the viewer in to better find out what is happening and how it plays a bigger part in this little one’s childhood.
This little recap is so wonderful, Meg! I especially love that last pic too. 🙂 Thanks again!
