My husband and I are long time foodies.  Well, he has always been a foodie, and he has quickly influenced my palate.  And we adore date nights.  When we had the chance to enjoy a date night at California Pizza Kitchen to taste test their new menu items, we were all in.  In fact, we couldn’t schedule our evening fast enough.

I know what you are probably thinking.  Pizza night!  While we love the pizza at CPK just as much as you do, our favorites quickly became the unexpected NEW menu items.  California Pizza Kitchen has revamped their menu, keeping the classic appetizers, salads, and pizza, but also adding main plates and pasta dishes.  The dimension of their menu has moved to a whole new level.

Here are our favorites from our night at California Pizza Kitchen.

  • 14138954_10154471932393875_191555998_oThe Drinks  If you are looking for some unique, handcrafted cocktails, this drink menu has you covered.  I started out with a Harvest Sangria, which happens to be the seasonal sangria right
now.  It came highly recommended by our server.  One sip and I was thrilled with it.  Not too sweet; so much flavor and even some floral notes.  This can also be ordered in their unique Sangria Flight, which gives you a chance to try all three of their sangrias.  My husband ordered the Citrus Adobo Margarita, which was also a fabulous surprise.  It was fresh, not too sweet, not overly spicy, and the flavor was on point!  He loved it.  The Coconut Blossom rounded out our drinks with a punch!  Unusual, surprising, and delicious.  We were also impressed to see a chain restaurant partnering with a local craft beer favorite, Pikes Peak Brewing Company.
  • The Main Plates  The choices on the new menu are impressive.  We had a really hard time deciding what we wanted to try.
    • 14139063_10154471932288875_1046425727_oHearth-Roasted Halibut :: wild caught Alaskan Halibut roasted on a cedar plank with grilled asparagus and butternut squash farro & baby kale. Another knockout suggestion from our server.  The fish came out so flaky and fresh it was unbelievable.  The butternut squash sauce was hands down one of the best sauces I have ever tasted.  My husband and I shared both main dishes, and we started with this one.  We were soaking up every last ounce of the sauce that we could, and we barely spoke as we savored every bite. We were in agreement that we would go back for this dish alone, as it was one of the best fish dishes we have ever had!
    • 14152236_10154471932223875_1708059606_oRoasted Garlic Chicken + Seasonal Vegetables :: Pan-sautéed chicken breast in lemon-garlic sauce with hearth-roasted fingerling potatoes, cauliflower, Mediterranean herbs and seasonal vegetables.  We were full after inhaling the halibut dish, but we dug right into this one too!  The chicken breast was tender and the sauce was great.  I am a lover of cauliflower, and this was cooked perfectly for me.  The dish worked really well together.  We were not able to finish it all, but we did take half of the dish home with us.  I’m happy to report that it was excellent reheated for lunch the next day as well.
  • The Appetizers :: Bianco Flatbread and Avocado Club Egg Rolls –  I can’t skip these two!  They were the perfect appetizers.  While I’m not sure if the Bianco Flatbread is new (and I forgot to ask because I was so distracted with ALL the food), what is not to love about whipped truffle cream, Gorgonzola, Mozzarella and fresh sage?  So good.  The Avocado Club Egg Rolls are a tried and true favorite, and still as complex and flavorful as ever.  So, while I loved seeing the new menu, it was great to also see some old favorites.  There are just some things that are too good to change! This goes for the pizza menu too.

California Pizza Kitchen has always been known for their amazing, unique pizzas.  I would encourage you to stop by and try out their new menu.  I am certain that you will agree with me that they now need to be known for a whole lot more than just pizza.  This new menu is bursting with flavor and goodness!

Have you tried the new menu?  Drop your comments below if you have. Haven’t tried it yet?  We would love to hear about your experience when you go!

Tonya
Tonya grew up in Iowa and attended the University of Northern Iowa, where she majored in Health Promotion (the degree you choose when you know are meant to make an impact but you don’t know exactly how) After graduating in 2003, her adventurous spirit lead her to pack up her little car and move to Colorado Springs. Her heart was easily won by the beautiful landscape, the amazing weather, colorful Aspen trees, and the fabulous people in this city. In 2008, she married her love and best friend, Ryan. They added two amazing boys to the family…Landon (2009) and Kellan (2011). After a rewarding career as a Director for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and a sales representative for Pfizer, her heart desired more time with her boys. In 2011, she became a work from home mom, focusing on her very busy boys full time and her health and wellness coaching business part time! Her passion as a mom includes building legos, trips to the zoo, family hikes, fishing, and camping. Her passion as a health coach is helping people see their potential, reach goals, and lead a healthy lifestyle. In her spare time (what is that again??), she loves working out, running, and reading. Her favorite things to do with her handsome hubby include riding bikes downtown Colorado Springs for date nights, hiking the incline, trying new (exotic) foods, spending time with great (adult) friends, and trying craft beers (inspired of course by her husband!).
