Moms, do you ever feel like you take care of everyone in your family except for yourself?  Me too.  In fact, I hate to admit this, but it has been way too long since my last eye exam.  I have no good excuses for not getting my eyes checked.  The reality is…I am tired from the frequent well checks for my kids, my annual exam, trips to the dentist, my husband’s back surgery and the countless appointments that went with that, ear tubes for my youngest son, AND all the trips to the doctor for coughs and the flu.

So, getting my eyes checked just keeps getting pushed down the list.  And, for someone who has had glasses since 2nd grade, I know better.  My left eye has declined, but not so terribly that it has forced me to go to the eye doctor.

PupilMobileEyeExamEnter PUPIL.  A brand new mobile eye exam service in the Colorado Springs area.  The first of its kind.  A mom’s perfect scenario.

PUPIL‘s devices are completely portable, which means they can send a highly trained technician to you – where you choose, at the time you choose.  Here is how this new service works:

  1.  Book A Time – simply visit their website to request an appointment.  You set the time and the place.  PUPIL will meet you anywhere in their coverage area.  (right now this is Colorado Springs and the surrounding areas.  See areas on the map outlined in red)Pupil Service area
  2. Perform The Test – one of their highly trained technicians will test your visual acuity and screen for pathology (Note – they advocate for annual eye exams)
  3. Get Prescription – after your exam, your visual data will be securely transmitted to a local optometrist.
  4. Buy New Glasses – present your prescription at your choice of retailers, anywhere glasses are sold.

The technician comes to you, saving you valuable travel time.  The technician comes when you schedule, saving you valuable time wasted in a waiting room.  The eye exam takes about 30 minutes.  That is music to my ears. I’m back to my laundry, dishes, or a work out in the middle of my day.  Yes please!

IMG_1730Multiple studies indicate that PUPIL’s devices are as accurate as the devices used by an Optometrist. Mobile vision screenings performed by PUPIL gather the same refractive data as an Optometrist and prescribe eyeglasses to best correct for visual defects. PUPIL does not offer services that replace certain diagnostic tests preformed by an Optometrist.  You can read more about their FAQ’s HERE.

A PUPIL eye exam will run $75 per patient, or $135 for two patients (insurance not accepted).  Starting this week, patients in Colorado Springs can book their exams for the first weeks of May.  The website is easy to navigate for appointments.  Book yours HERE.

I am going to be one of their most excited patients next month.  No more excuses.  As a busy mom, a service that can come to me during my day of carpooling and running crazy errands is just plain nice. And sometimes, we all need a little nice in our chaotic days.

Tonya
Tonya grew up in Iowa and attended the University of Northern Iowa, where she majored in Health Promotion (the degree you choose when you know are meant to make an impact but you don’t know exactly how) After graduating in 2003, her adventurous spirit lead her to pack up her little car and move to Colorado Springs. Her heart was easily won by the beautiful landscape, the amazing weather, colorful Aspen trees, and the fabulous people in this city. In 2008, she married her love and best friend, Ryan. They added two amazing boys to the family…Landon (2009) and Kellan (2011). After a rewarding career as a Director for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and a sales representative for Pfizer, her heart desired more time with her boys. In 2011, she became a work from home mom, focusing on her very busy boys full time and her health and wellness coaching business part time! Her passion as a mom includes building legos, trips to the zoo, family hikes, fishing, and camping. Her passion as a health coach is helping people see their potential, reach goals, and lead a healthy lifestyle. In her spare time (what is that again??), she loves working out, running, and reading. Her favorite things to do with her handsome hubby include riding bikes downtown Colorado Springs for date nights, hiking the incline, trying new (exotic) foods, spending time with great (adult) friends, and trying craft beers (inspired of course by her husband!).
