It is a message that we see, hear and remind ourselves of often. A simple life is a beautiful life. It is easy, less chaotic, and more peaceful. But living a simple life is oftentimes easier said than done, especially for moms. Throw a child or two into the mix and even the simplest of tasks can become a challenge.
Francine Jay, the author of The Joy of Less, has some wise words to guide us in our quest for simple living.
“Strive not to get more done,
but to have less to do.”
Yes, the words “have less to do” seem like a pipe dream to busy moms. Our to-do list never ends. But there are little things we can do each day that can bring us one step closer to the coveted simple life.
Here are three tips for making life simpler and your to-do list smaller:
Establish a Morning Routine
The way we start our morning sets the tone for the rest of the day. A calm morning leads to a calm day. If you are able, be the first to rise. Ease into the morning. Take a moment to breathe. Drink some coffee or a glass of water. Pick up any messes throughout the house. Prepare breakfast. Make your bed. Start a load of laundry.
With these simple tasks completed, you will have taken care of yourself, made your bedroom nicer, decluttered, finished breakfast, and began washing clothes. Look at how much you have chiseled off your to-do list and all before 9:00 A.M.
Clean as You Go
Getting in the habit of tidying up throughout the day can put a major dent in your daily to-dos. It takes only a moment to clean a tiny mess, but hours to clean up a big one. Cleaning as you go is one habit that you definitely want to instill in your kids. A great way to do this is to introduce the stop, drop and clean routine. Several times throughout the day, have your kids stop what they’re doing, drop down to find messes and pick them up. Who knew cleanup time could be so fun?
Simplify Mealtime with Kilyn’s Kitchen
There are some days when dinnertime can really be a struggle. You’re tired and it’s been a hectic day. Perhaps you still have to shuffle kids around to their various activities. On days like these, there isn’t always time to prepare a large meal, especially when you factor in prep time and cleanup.
That is why we love Kilyn’s Kitchen. With their line of fresh, never frozen, USDA certified all-natural fully prepared meals, feeding your kids a nutritious meal in a time crunch has never been easier. After all, isn’t simple the goal?
Kilyn’s Kitchen family meals are three pounds and designed to feed the entire family. Simply choose your favorite Kilyn’s Kitchen meal, boil a pot of water, and drop your prepared meal pouch into the boiling water for 25 minutes. Then, remove the pouch from the water, open, serve and enjoy. Preparation and Cleanup is a breeze.
Even the packaging is intentionally minimalist to save you time and money. It’s completely boilable, so there’s no removing boxes or films before tossing it in your pot of water to boil. And you don’t have the extra cost of additional packaging. Not to mention, the packaging doubles as a bowl to serve straight from! Just flip the product onto your cutting board or countertop, then (easiest with scissors) cut around three edges and fold back the “lid” and voila! Serve straight onto plates or a platter, if you’re feeling fancy.
You can find Kilyn’s Kitchen in your nearby Safeway meat department. Each meal package includes a meat, vegetable, and starch and retail prices start at $13.99, which is less than $3.50 per serving.
