summer camp guide (10)

Spring has nearly arrived in Southern Colorado, which means it is time to think ahead to summer camps. Early registration has begun for most programs, so we compiled this Ultimate Guide to Summer Camps in and around Colorado Springs to help you plan. This list covers everything from outdoor adventures, dance, sports, and art. We recognize many moms can spend extensive amounts of time piecing together week to week activities for the summer. We hope this guide is a helpful one stop shop for all your summer camp wishes! Let’s make 2017 the best summer yet!

A special thank you goes out to our title sponsor, Catamount Institute, and to all of our sponsors that helped make this guide possible. We greatly appreciate the support of the community and the opportunity to present our readers with valuable resources.

A Resource of Day Camps, Sports & Dance Programs, Engineering Camps and so much more!

Catamount Institute

Catamount Institute is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting kids with nature through meaningful outdoor experiences. What’s more, children learn that they have the powerful ability to protect and nurture the natural world. It is these young nature lovers that will be tomorrow’s stewards of the earth. Sign your child or grandchild up for a summer of outdoor adventure and science.

Catamount Institute has been providing camp experiences in and around Colorado Springs for 20 years. Young campers start close to home at Catamount Institute’s headquarters in the beautiful Sondermann Park near downtown Colorado Springs. There the 6-8-year-old campers in Creepy Crawly Safari explore the park and its creepy crawly critters who call it home. Campers who are 9-11 can sign up for the Outdoor Explorers Camp for a day camp with one overnight stay in a cabin in the mountains. This is an excellent introduction to a sleep away camp as well as a week full of outdoor exploration in Colorado Springs. Those campers who have a high interest in science will love Catamount Institute’s Field Science day camp for ages 10-12. During this week, campers will learn what it takes to become a naturalist. Also for ages 10-12 is the Dirt Camp day camp. Campers in Dirt Camp will spend their week at Garden of the Gods learning about the geology and history of the park while also volunteering with Rocky Mountain Field Institute to repair some of the damaged ecosystems. Campers who are 12-14 and ready for more adventure can register for the week long residential Adventure Camp. Campers will spend their time in the high country with three nights in cabins and a one night tent camp out at a wolf sanctuary. Looking for a little more wilderness? Campers 13-15 can join the Wilderness Adventure camp for a full week of tent camping, hiking, white water rafting, and shelter building. Finally, campers aged 13-16 can experience the Rocky Mountain Adventure Backpacking Trek with our professional outdoor guides on a 3 night 4 day trip to Northern Colorado.
